 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Apply techniques of management for housekeeping administration.
 II.     Specify the areas of housekeeping responsibility in a lodging establishment.
 III.    Outline career opportunities for housekeepers in the lodging field and those qualities needed by housekeeping managers.
 IV.     Staff a housekeeping department, using the important tools of job description, specification, and analysis.
 V.      Categorize proper and improper methods of cleaning the guest room.
 VI.     Select the various types of supplies and equipment necessary for maintenance of a property`s flooring.
 VII.    Purchase carpeting based on esthetic values, maintenance and wear, and budgeting restrictions.
 VIII.   Evaluate, for the purpose of cleaning and maintaining, the products, fabrics, coverings, and surfaces found in sleeping rooms.
 IX.     Incorporate the reading of blueprints and floor plans, the knowledge of structure and safety features, and a sense of good design to achieve an effective interior design of public space and guest rooms.
 X       Employ special techniques and equipment for efficiently cleaning the quest bathroom and public restrooms.
 XI.     Critique the importance of uniforms for housekeepers. Link the operations of the linen and sewing rooms to those in other departments of the lodging establishment.
 XII.    Outline the main ingredients of employee job satisfaction.
 XIII.   Appraise the necessity of interdependence and cooperation between housekeeping and other major departments.
 XIV.    Explain the complexities of laundry management and its effect on lodging property.
 XV.     Establish the importance of budgeting money, scheduling employees, completing paperwork, and utilizing time effectively for a successful housekeeping operation.
