  Course Description:Concludes the student’s learning in the area of landscape design with a consideration of relevant business practices a final individual project and the development of a final professional portfolio. Students conclude the course with a presentation of their projects and portfolios to a review panel.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Write a contract for design service and installation/construction specifications for a project.
 2. Build a portfolio of designs that demonstrates competency in the design of a wide variety of situations (i.e. small property, large property, newly built sites, renovation sites, etc.).
 3. Place plants that are appropriate to the region, to site microclimates, and to the functional spaces within a design based on the design theme of a site.
 4. Explain the design and placement of patios, retaining walls, and free-standing walls in a landscape.
 5. Demonstrate the proper placement of structural design elements to modify the site environment/microclimate in specified ways.
 6. Create construction documents that reference planting and structural details appropriately and that demonstrate an understanding of the landscape construction process.
 7. Present a landscape plan package to a panel of landscape professionals.
 8. Select plants that are appropriate to the region, to site microclimates, and to the functional spaces within a design based on the design theme of a site.
 9. Defend a landscape grading plan the student has developed for a site.
 10. Demonstrate an understanding of landscape design business practices (i.e. qualification of the customer, design bidding and pricing practices, contract law, closing the sale, customer service and post-design presentation follow-up)
 11. Demonstrates an understanding of the design of landscape amenities (For example: lighting, water features, fire features, outdoor kitchens, etc.).
