STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of greenhouse design, greenhouse environmental control systems, and the equipment
used in greenhouse production.
2. Demonstrates familiarity with the control of the abiotic and biotic environmental factors that are of concern to greenhouse
growers (i.e. light, temperature, photoperiod, carbon dioxide levels, pests and diseases, etc.)
3. Select a greenhouse growing substrate based upon the needs of the crop, the crop production system in use, cost, etc.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of greenhouse water quality parameters, plant nutrition, greenhouse plant nutrition monitoring
practices, and greenhouse fertilization practices.
5. Summarize methods used in the production of different types of greenhouse crops
(i.e. bedding plants, vegetables, florist crops, certified organic crops, etc).
6. Demonstrate an understanding of greenhouse economics.
7. Solve mathematical exercises relevant to greenhouse management (i.e. chemical dilutions, application rates, etc.).
8. Demonstrate an understanding of pest and disease control practices unique to greenhouse production.
9. Demonstrate an understanding of regulations (i.e. FIFRA, WPS, etc) that impact greenhouse growers and compliance0
practices (i.e. safe handling of pesticides, etc).
