  Title:Landscape Drafting and Design
  Long Title:Landscape Drafting and Design
  Course Description:Allows students that wish to learn the basics of landscape design and planning so that they can produce simple gardens, or interpret plans for construction. The course discusses the principles and elements of design by looking at various landscape styles. Students learn the design process and basics of landscape graphics. They produce simple, scaled landscape drawing, and learn to interpret landscape plans for construction.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Correctly order the steps in the design process and discuss the activities and products of each step of the design process and discuss the difference between a landscape design program and a landscape plan.
 II.     Interpret property survey documents, perform a site inventory visit, and use this information to create landscape design documents.
 III.    Conduct an interview with a `client` to establish their landscape needs, and create a landscape design program from that interviewDemonstrate how to phase landscape construction for a given landscape designIdentify the microclimates created by the existing and proposed structures and landscaping
 IV.     Demonstrate the use of triangulation to correctly place structures on a landscape plan
 V.      Discuss the steps undertaken to identify city code or H.O.A. covenant restrictions on landscaping and  the location of utilities, rights-of-way, and easements on a property
 VI.     Differentiate between an architect`s and an engineer`s scale and demonstrate the use of each  to produce simple landscape documents at a graphic scale and on a paper size appropriate to the size of the project
 VII.    Demonstrate the proper use of the following: straight edge, eraser shield, parallel rule, triangle, flexible curve, sketch pens and H, 2H and 4H lead
 VIII.   Demonstrate the proper use of a lettering guide and produce clean lettering of consistent line quality, shape, size, and weight using lead and pen
 IX.     Using lead and pen, produce clean freehand lettering of consistent line quality, shape, size and weight and demonstrate the ability to draw lines of consistent width and weight in a landscape plan
 X       Demonstrate the ability to produce a landscape plan document that is clean and neat and that demonstrates the proper placement and content of the following on a landscape plan: title block, legend, plant list, notes, and scale and direction indicator
 XI.     Graphically represent specific plants and materials used in landscape construction
 XII.    Summarize the meaning of the following terms as they relate to landscape design: formal, informal, order, symmetry, asymmetry, unity, dominance, repetition, rhythm, color, texture, form, theme
 XIII.   Diagram and dimension the drawing of a constructed landscape object from the top, front, and side views of that object
 XIV.    Discuss grading considerations as they pertain to drainage, use and safety concerns
 XV.     Demonstrate an ability to interpret a layout plan, grading plan, planting plan, and construction details and specifications
 XVI.    Convert the scale on a plan to feet and inches in a field situation Properly orient a plan to a site in a field situation
 XVII.   Discuss the function of perspectives, section elevations and elevations as they relate to landscape construction and grading
 XVIII.  Discuss the use of various landscape plan documents in the planning of the irrigation system
 XIX.    Relate the construction documents to the bidding and construction process
