 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Demonstrate an understanding of  the structure and significance of horticulture to plant agriculture systems.
 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the plant classification and nomenclatural systems
    (i.e. ICBN, ICNCP, and operational systems of classification).
 3. Demonstrate an understanding of plant anatomy and its applications to plant growth, plant health care,
    and plant identification.
 4. Demonstrate a basic understanding of plant propagation methods.
 5. Demonstrate an understanding of how environmental variables and humans influence plant growth,
    physiology, and development.
 6. Demonstrate an understanding of biotechnology and plant breeding and of the controversies
    around the use of biotechnology in plant variety development.
 7. Describe the methods of pruning and their effects on plants.
 8. Describe the imporance of controlled environment horticulture to the horticulture industry as a whole.
 9. Apply an understanding plant physiology and plant anatomy to turf care (i.e. fertilization and mowing).
 10. Demonstrates an understanding of basic fertilizer types, their use,  and how to calculate
     application rates for various crop situations.
 11. Examines and describes trends in horticulture.
 12. Demonstrate an understanding of the practices use for establishing, and maintaining horticultural crops.
 13. Identify and assess personal skill set readiness for employment in horticulture.
