Course Description: | Provides a practical experience addressing approaches to assessing, selecting, and configuring EHRs to meet the specific needs of customers and end-users. The course provides additional opportunities for hands on experience, on a computer, or in a classroom simulated environment, in configuring an EHR system that will provide features required to meet meaningful use. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Describe the process of migration to an electronic health record (EHR) from organizational strategy, planning, analysis of EHR options, decision-making techniques, training, and implementation strategies.
2. Write a Request For Information /Request For Proposal using stated criteria.
3. Discuss the migration path from organization strategy to implementation, including meaningful use criteria for a given case study.
4. Analyze an established EHR system using criteria using meaningful use criteria.
5. Evaluate EHR systems to select an EHR most appropriate to an organization and clinical setting.
6. Discuss the importance and use of clinical decision support systems for clinical and administrative use.
7. Demonstrate understanding of data architecture, data sets, data repositories, data standards, data types and data dictionaries.
8. Configure the simulated EHR system to achieve features required for meaningful use, including screen design/view, data entry templates, implementation of clinical decision support rules, alerts, and reminders, building of order sets, implementation of medication favorites, generate quality reports and metrics, and capture the highest quality data.
