Course Description: | Introduces the fundamentals of healthcare workflow, process analysis, and redesign in various healthcare settings. Health information technology culture changes (IT/Clinicians) and project management, including HIT system selection, design, implementation, and support will also be covered. Electronic health record/practice management systems will be evaluated for quality and process improvement, clinical decision support, health information exchange, public health, and population health management in ambulatory and alternative care settings. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. Describe project management methodologies and emerging software technologies (clinical decision support and health information exchange),
including processes used in the selection and implementation of health information management systems
2. Analyze the workflow processes (diagrams) in clinical settings, through identification of gaps, redundancy, delays, manual work,
work volume, task time, and elapsed time.
3. Identify a variety of tools for process improvement, change management, and decision-making that are used to make an
evaluation plan and document healthcare workflows.
4. Determine the functions of the Health Information Management (HIM) department and the HIM professional; and the utilization of electronic
health records in the completion of HIM processes.
5. Discover the impact that regulations, standards, interoperability, security concepts, and data integrity have on clinical and HIM workflows.
6. Examine how health information technology may be used to support public health and population health management programs and goals.
