 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 
 1. Apply policies and procedures surrounding issues of access and disclosure of protected health information
 2. Apply confidentiality, privacy and security measures and policies and procedures for internal and external use and exchange
    to protect electronic health information (includes state and federal privacy and security laws, internal and external standards, regulations and initiatives
 3. Apply retention and destruction policies for health information (Data storage and retrieval, data warehouses, etc.)
 4. Describe the structure of the legal systems on the Federal and State levels. (II.A.1)
 5. Identify court decisions/special legislation (HIPAA) which affects health care facilities and staff.
 6. Apply legal concepts and principles, including preparing health information for use in legal proceedings, HIPAA.)
 7. Identify ethical standards of practice and evaluate the consequences of a breach of healthcare ethics
 8. Identify a complete health record according to organizational policies, external regulations, and standards (Legal Health Record)
 9. Apply healthcare legal terminology
 10. Identify the use of legal documents (Consent for treatment, POA, Patient rights, etc.)
