  Course Description:Introduces medical vocabulary through the study or word structures and phrases. Reinforcement is provided through writing narratives and examining medical records. Anatomy and physiology of all body systems are reviewed with discussion of related diseases, diagnostic procedures, treatments and drugs. Emphasis will be on learning to read, pronunciation and interpretation of medical documentation . The importance or 1-11PAA is illustrated, in both physical and electronic dissemination of medical records.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Identify medical terms as they relate to each body system.
 2. Demonstrate proper pronunciation and spelling of medical terms as they relate to each body system.
 3. Identify diagnoses independently and in context of medical record documentation.
 4. Describe the various types or diagnostic tests and procedures used in making a diagnosis and in treatment of diseases.
 5. Differentiate between diagnoses and symptoms.
 6. Analyze medical records for diagnosis, procedures, processes and data collection.
 7. Perform patient medical management processes for data extraction .
 8. Explain the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act with regards to privacy of medical data.
 9. Identify basic drug classifications as related to disease management.
