Course Description: | Introduces theories of holistic animal care, communication techniques, and various homeopathic, energetic & natural remedies that can be safely used with animals. Discusses how to provide animals with healthier nutrition, safe toys and environments to optimize their overall wellness. Examines diverse views and treatment of animals from past to present, the applications of complementary practices in animal care as well as the grief process in coping with the loss of an animal/pet. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. Review the history of care, treatment, cultural views and use of animals over time
2. Idenitfy the emergence of complementary treatments by Veterinarians
3. Examine traditional vs. holistic views on the contents used in animal nutrition and play products
4. Explain how to create a safe home, yard, and shelter environment and considerations for animals/pets
5. Describe methods how to ‘emotionally read’ and communicate with both large and small domestic animals
6. Discuss the applications of safe, non-invasive, homeopathic, energetic and touch techniques in holistic animal care
7. Discuss the human-animal bond as it relates to utilizing animals in therapeutic and service capacities
