Course Description: | Focuses on continued theory and practice of machine tool operation with special emphasis on gunsmithing procedures. Projects include specialized gunsmithing tools and fixtures. Covers safety, milling cutters, cutting speeds and feeds, rifle barrel lining, abrasive machining, cutting tool materials, and machine maintenance. Shop safety is strongly emphasized. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Describe general shop safety and safe machine operation practices.
II. Describe methods for winding coil springs.
III. Determine correct cutting speeds and feeds for both high speed steel and carbide tooling for; Drill Presses, Metal Cutting Lathes, Milling Machines
IV. Describe the procedures for relining a rimfire rifle barrel.
V. Describe the uses and setup for the index head.
VI. Describe the uses and setup for the milling attachment for the lathe.
VII. Describe applications and limitations of carbide tooling.
