STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Given performance tests, the student will perform these tasks with a score of 70% or better:
1. Demonstrate general shop safety practices.
2. Demonstrate hand tools used in knifemaking and their function.
3. Follow and apply the basic principles of knife design.
4. Use correct knifemaking nomenclature.
5. Follow the step by step procedure for making a knife.
6. Make a knife.
7. Select and use steels commonly used in knifemaking.
8. Demonstrate the fundamentals of heat-treating knife steels.
9. Demonstrate the correct methods for soldering bolsters on knife blades.
10. Follow and apply the basic principles of knife sheath design.
A. Make a knife sheath.
1. Demonstrate safe operations of buffers for final polishing a knife.
2. Demonstrate knife sharpening methods.
