  Course Description:The NRA Police Firearms Instructor Development School is designed to increase the instructional ability of the police firearms instructor. This instructor school is not a combat, tactical or survival school. Officers who attend should have a basic knowledge of police firearms and shooting safety. Without a basic firearms background, much of the information presented will be of little value. Officers who successfully complete the school will receive an NRA Police Firearms Instructor Development School completion certificate.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Given performance tests, students will perform/complete these tasks with a score of 80% or better on the written, and 90% or better on the practical:
         A.      Conduct an orientation demonstration.
         B.      Demonstrate safe firearms loading, unloading and malfunction techniques.
         C.      Teach the fundamentals of handgun marksmanship to the satisfaction of the course I instructor.
         D.      Discuss coaching techniques.
         E.      Outline the fundamentals of instruction.
         F.      Discuss the use of lesson plans in teaching.
         G.      Discuss the use of training aids in teaching.
         H.      Describe police firing positions.
         I.      Explain classroom-speaking techniques.
         J.      Conduct dim light firing and shoot/don¿t shoot exercises.
         K.      Discuss decision course critique.
         L.      Explain the NRA police program.
         M.      Teach firearms safety to the satisfaction of the course instructor.
         N.      Teach police shotgun, use of slugs and buckshot to the satisfaction of the course instructor.
         O.      Discuss police liability.
         P.      Teach the fundamentals of shotgun shooting/moving target shooting to the satisfaction of the course instructor.
         Q.      Explain range management principles and procedures.
         R.      Conduct instructional shooting exercises.
