STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Explain NRA policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials, and teaching methods to be followed when conducting an NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course.
2. Explain basic range safety procedures, range commands, and shooting safety rules.
3. Effectively teach students to load and shoot a rifle from the benchrest, standing and sitting positions according to the NRA instructional method.
4. Use various instructional techniques to teach the fundamentals of safe gun handling, cleaning and rifle shooting according to NRA lesson plans.
5. Discuss the parts and operation of various rifle action types according to NRA lesson plans.
6. Discuss ammunition identification, loading, components, types, storage, malfunctions and the firing sequence of a cartridge according to NRA lesson plans.
7. Explain the basic guidelines for selecting a rifle.
