STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Explain policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials, and teaching methods when
conducting an NRA Basic Muzzleloading Shooting Course.
2. Explain basic range safety procedures, range commands, and shooting safety rules.
3. Effectively teach students to load and shoot a muzzleloading gun from the various positions according to the NRA instructional method.
4. Use various instructional techniques to teach the fundamentals of safe gun handling, cleaning and
muzzleloading gun shooting according to NRA lesson plans.
5. Discuss the parts and operation of muzzleloading guns according to NRA lesson plans.
6. Demonstrate the proper procedures, components and accessories for loading a muzzleloading gun.
7. Identify black powder types, their proper uses and related safety procedures.
8. Identify the causes of muzzleloading gun failure to fire and to implement proper correction procedures.
9. Use positive feedback to improve student motivation and performance.
10. Discuss processes for evaluating and improving the performance of beginning muzzleloading shooters
