STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Discuss brief history of muzzleloading shotguns.
2. Identify principle parts of percussion and flintlock shotguns, and discuss how they work.
3. Demonstrate and discuss safe handling rules for a muzzleloading shotgun.
4. Identify black powders and their proper uses.
5. Discuss proper safety procedures pertaining to black powder use and storage.
6. Discuss proper components of a load.
7. Identify proper procedures and accessories used for loading a muzzleloading shotgun.
8. Demonstrate knowledge, skill and attitude necessary to shoot a muzzleloading shotgun on the range.
9. Shoot a moving target using fundamentals of firing the shot.
10. Identify materials needed to clean a muzzleloading shotgun safely.
11. Identify the causes of muzzleloading shotgun failure to fire and demonstrate proper correction procedures.
12. Demonstrate firing a muzzleloading shotgun from various stations.
13. Shoot a target from the various stations using fundamentals of firing the shot.
14. Identify several ways to pursue a shooting interest.
15. Identify criteria for selecting a shotgun.
16. Discuss how to join shooting groups.
