STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Discuss brief history of muzzleloading rifles.
2. Identify principle parts of percussion and flintlock rifles, and discuss how they work.
3. Demonstrate and discuss safe handling rules for a muzzleloading rifle.
4. Identify black powders and their proper uses.
5. Discuss proper safety procedures pertaining to black powder use and storage.
6. Discuss proper components of a load.
7. Identify proper procedures and accessories used for loading a muzzleloading rifle.
8. Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and attitude necessary to shoot a muzzleloading rifle on the range.
9. Shoot a target from the bench rest position using fundamentals of firing the shot.
10. Identify materials needed to clean a muzzleloading riflel safely.
11. Identify the causes of muzzleloading pistol failure to fire and demonstrate proper correction procedures.
12. Demonstrate firing a muzzleloading rifle from the standing position.
13. Shoot a target from the standing position using fundamentals of firing the shot.
14. Demonstrate firing a muzzleloading rifle from the crossed stick (sitting) position.
15. Shoot a target from the crossed stick position using fundamentals of firing the shot.
16. Identify several ways to pursue a shooting interest.
17. Identify criteria for selecting a rifle.
18. Discuss how to join shooting groups.
