STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Discuss brief history of handguns.
2. Identify principle parts of a pistol, types of actions and their function.
3. Demonstrate and discuss safe handling rules for a pistol.
4. Identify different components of a pistol cartridge.
5. Discuss how to properly store ammunition.
6. Discuss major types of cartridge malfunctions.
7. Demonstrate and discuss fundamentals of pistol shooting.
8. Demonstrate knowledge, skill and attitude necessary to shoot a pistol on the range.
9. Shoot a target from the bench rest position using fundamentals of firing the shot.
10. Identify materials needed to clean a pistol safely.
11. Identify the causes of pistol failure to fire and demonstrate proper correction procedures.
12. Demonstrate firing a pistol from a two-handed standing position.
13. Shoot a target from the two-handed position using fundamentals of firing the shot.
14. Identify several ways to pursue a shooting interest.
15. Identify criteria for selecting a pistol.
