 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Given performance tests, the student will perform these tasks with a score of 75% or better:
 II.     List the primary causes of gun accidents.
 III.    Explain the basic elements of gun safety.
 IV.     List the three fundamental gun safety rules.
 V.      Discuss other safety rules when using or storing guns.
 VI.     Discuss responsibilities for teaching gun safety to children.
 VII.    Be aware that firearm accidents have been on the decline.
 VIII.   Identify the different types of handguns and know their parts.
 IX.     Unload various types of handguns.
 X       Identify the different types of rifles and know their parts.
 XI.     Unload various types of rifles.
 XII.    Identify the different types of shotguns and know their parts.
 XIII.   Unload various types of shotguns.
 XIV.    Be familiar with muzzleloading firearms.
 XV.     Safely handle the different types of firearms mentioned above and unload them.
 XVI.    List the different types of rifle cartridges, handgun cartridges, and shotgun shells.
 XVII.   List the firing sequence of modern ammunition.
 XVIII.  Explain how to clean firearms properly.
 XIX.    Discuss how to store firearms and ammunition.
