  Course Description:Provides the student a hands-on experience in forging Damascus knife blades. Includes making Damascus steel, forging Damascus blades, safety, heat treating, and material selection. Students make and forge their own Damascus steel knife blade.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Consult with the instructor to select projects/tasks that will be completed to the satisfaction of the instructor.
 II.     Given performance tests, the student will perform these tasks with a score of 75% or better:
         A.      Explain and/or demonstrate how to make Damascus steel.
         B.      Explain and/or demonstrate how to forge Damascus blades.
         C.      Discuss safety during the knifemaking process.
         D.      Explain and/or demonstrate the heat treating process.
         E.      Discuss material selection.
