Course Description: | Enables the student to forge basic tool steels into knife blades. Includes forging, safety, types of steels, heat treating, types of guards, and handles. Upon completion of the course, students should have two finished blades and a strong understanding of forging and heat treating high carbon tool steels. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Consult with the instructor to select projects/tasks that will be completed to the satisfaction of the instructor.
II. Given performance tests, the student will perform these tasks with a score of 75% or better:
A. Discuss and/or demonstrate forging techniques.
B. Discuss safety while forging.
C. Discuss types of steels for knifemaking.
D. Explain and/or demonstrate heat treating.
E. Explain types of guards.
F. Explain types of handles.
