Course Description: | Teaches students the professional techniques and skills used to build a drum set in the western context. The course emphasizes sonic and aesthetic design. The course culminates with each student designing and producing a four-piece drum set (2 toms, 1 bass, and 1 snare). |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Design sonically congruent drum shells emphasizing wood choice and grain orientation
2. Design aesthetically congruent drum shells
3. Layup shell plies effectively utilizing varying lamination directions and composites
4. Develop and design high-pressure molds
5. Press drum shells
6. Practice veneering layup techniques
7. Veneer a cylinder using a high pressure mold
8. Veneer a cylinder using a vacuum bag
9. Design and cut bearing edges with emphasis on sonic achievement
10. Explore finishing, drilling, and layout techniques
