STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of chair design and construction
2. Identify various functions and styles of chairs
3. Design and build a chair utilizing joinery methods specific to chair stresses and demands
4. Demonstrate proficiency with hand- and machine-cut joinery
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Research chair design with a focus on function, comfort. and construction
II. Understand the various design features of different functions of a chair, i.e., what makes a lounge chair comfortable, or how does a task chair help the user with a task
III. Implement the correct joinery into the chair design taking into consideration the stresses the joint will be subject to, quality of the joint work, and using a joint that will increase the longevity of the life of the chair
IV. Explore various methods for cutting joinery using both hand and machine techniques
