STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of various cabinet design and construction methods
2. Build a free-standing cabinet in a frame-and-carcass style
3. Construct a door and drawer using traditional joinery and fitting methods
4. Create technical working drawings
5. Demonstrate proficiency at traditional hand-cut dovetails and other carcass joinery
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Design a free-standing cabinet
II. Recognize appropriate joinery to use in all aspects of cabinet design
III. Develop proficiency with traditional solid-wood cabinet joinery, i.e., mortise and tenon, dovetail, miter
IV. Build a frame and panel or veneer-core door using traditional hanging and fitting methods
V. Build a solid-wood drawer with hand-cut dovetails, traditionally fitted onto a wood rail system
VI. Create full-sized and scaled technical drawings
