  Course Description:Introduces the student to job potentials, shop safety, hand and power tool safety, and instructs on the correcct use of all measurement tools as the basis for accurate measuring. In addition, the student will study and the application of milling baseboard, casing, rails, cove molding, fireplace mantels, and stair making.

 I.      Learn proper shop etiquette
 II.     Develop an understanding of basic mathematical principals used in cabinetmaking
 III.    Explore careers in cabinetmaking and related fields
 IV.     Learn the proper use of hand & power tools used in cabinetmaking and millworking
 V.      Use proper measuring tools and measuring procedures
 VI.     Mill trim
 VII.    Construct fireplace mantels
 VIII.   Assemble staircase

 I.      Shop etiquette
         A.      Develop serious attitude toward general behavior in the shop areas.
         B.      Learn proper clothing for shop environment
 II.     Basic Math
         A.      Learn basic skills of adding subtracting, multiplication, and division as they apply to the cabinetmaking and millwork profession
         B.      Learn to calculate board feet
         C.      Apply general algebraic concepts in a cabinetmaking and millwork setting.
         D.      Jointly develop with the instructor problem specific strategies to be applied in coursework.
 III.    Careers
         A.      Understand the expectations employers have of employees in the cabinetmaking and millwork industry
         B.      Become acquainted with different job possibilities, job hunting techniques, and job development skills
         C.      Write a resume, letter of application, and Follow-up (thank you) letter.
