STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. Demonstrate marquetry techniques by veneering a small box.
2. Demonstrate veneering and marquetry techniques in lamination of a curved substrate.
3. Apply advanced techniques in a marquetry design.
4. Apply repair techniques to damaged area or area with mistake.
5. Apply appropriate finishes to a marquetry piece.
6. Design marquetry elements to fit into a larger furniture piece.

I. Review and practice of techniques
a. Matching: book-matching, radial-matching, sequential-matching
b. Parquetry/Geometric: diamonds, rhomboids, basket-weave
c. Marquetry/Pictorial: knife-cutting, patterns, scroll-sawing, packet, and laser
II. Assembly and pressing techniques
a. Adhesive choices: PVA glue, UF glue, epoxy
b. Pressing choices: clamping, vacuum bag
c. Substrate choices: MDF, plywood, other
III. Advanced techniques
a. Borders and edges
b. Stripping, stringing, inlay strips
c. Multiple layer, stack packet, and laser techniques
d. Intarsia and segmentation
IV. Repair techniques
a. Antique marquetry
b. Patching, inlaying, dyeing, and color touch-up
V. Finishing
a. Wipe-on finishes
b. Spray-on finishes
