  Long Title:Surgical First Assistant Internship I
  Course Description:Incorporates a supervised clinical internship with a precepting surgeon for the Certified Surgical Technologist (67.5 contact hours). Focuses on guided home study, presentation of case studies, maintenance of records and a journal. Presents specific surgical cases such as Transverse Colon Resection, Total Hip Arthroplasty, Inguinal Hernia Repair and Tubal Ligation. Reviews diagnostic studies, intravenous equipment and drip rates, central and peripheral catheters, central venous pressure, arterial lines, fluid replacement therapy, local and general anesthesia, tissue planes and wound healing. Includes selected home study topics.
