  Course Description:Focuses on the student identifying and describing the many different types of diesel powered vehicles. Emphasis is placed on being able to research information in maintenance manuals and parts manuals along with demonstration of their abilities in properly identifying and select mechanical fasteners for a particular application. Specific coverage of precision fasteners, fuels, fluids as they relate to the diesel industry.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Identify and list features of on-road and off-road diesel powered vehicles.
 II.     Interpret and demonstrate the use of reference material found in the diesel industry.
 III.    Demonstrate the uses of precision measuring tools as they apply to the diesel industry.
 IV.     Document maintenance actions through the use of shop work orders to include research parts using a computer.
 V.      List the application and demonstrate to proper selection and use of all types of mechanical fasteners.
 VI.     List the application and demonstrate to proper selection and use of all types of lines, hoses fittings and couplings.
 VII.    Identify the many types of seals, bearings and gaskets and demonstrate the proper inspection, care and application as they relate to specific component applications.
 VIII.   Demonstrate and ability to properly and safely work with fuels, fluids and lubricants.
 IX.     Be able to research MSDS sheet as they apply to fuels, fluids, lubricants and other shop consumable materials.
