Course Description: | Introduces the student to normal adult echocardiography with an emphasis on echocardiographic anatomy, physiology and scanning techniques. American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines are emphasized in 2-D, M-mode, Doppler, stress, 3-D, contrast, transesophageal, cardiac catheterization (cath) lab, and operative imaging. Other topics include electrocardiography (ECG) and pharmacology common to echocardiography. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Identify normal adult cardiac anatomy and physiology.
2. Demonstrate normal adult echocardiographic scanning techniques using ASE guidelines.
3. Describe transesophageal imaging techniques and identify demonstrated anatomy.
4. Describe cath lab/operative imaging and associated duties and responsibilities.
5. Identify common drugs used in treating cardiac patients and describe their effects.
6. Describe ECG techniques and identify normal and common abnormal tracings.
