STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. Identify location for public health internship with a formal agreement initiated and accepted.
2. Evaluate and assess the internal structure guidelines and protocols of the chosen public health setting and adjust program plan as needed.
3. Discover the internal operation of a public health program from practical experience.
4. Examine oral health community program plan previously developed in a public health setting appropriate to the type of program plan.
5. Apply principles of oral health education to carry out goals of program plan on an in-person basis with patient contact.
TOPICAL OUTLINE
I. Identification of Locations for Internship
a. Assessment of community demographics, culture, social, and behavioral factors particular to this location
b. Analysis of community oral health needs – individual vs. community particular to this location
c. Determine if site planning location will be suitable for program plan
II. Internal Structure of Internship Location
a. Familiarize with the internal structure of the organization
b. Determine what conflicts/challenges may arise in program plan implementation
c. Adjust program plan to fit within internal structure guidelines
III. Implement program plan
a. Begin implementation process with target population
b. Assess and evaluate initial feedback from patients and public health organization
c. Adjust program as needed to accomplish goals
