Course Description: | Provides the student with current research application of pharmacology as it relates to the oral manifestations and complications of associated drugs. Students will investigate the effects, oral implications, treatment considerations and contraindications for the management of patient care. This course will study the most frequently used drugs by patients today and determine the overall impact on oral health. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. Investigate and prepare a paper using current scientific literature to determine the most commonly used drugs in the dental profession.
2. Discover and determine the effects, oral implications, treatment considerations and contraindications of the most commonly used drugs in dentistry.
3. Compare and contrast drug classifications, generic names, over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplementation and the impact for treatment.
4. Considering state practice law, determine the drugs that can be prescribed by hygienist and the process for writing and tracking prescriptions.
5. Formulate and apply knowledge to prepare a project on a pharmacologic drug.
