  Long Title:Community Dental Health II: Field Experience
  Course Description:Provides practical application of community dental health theory and opportunities to conduct needs assessments on a variety of populations. Emphasizes meeting the educational needs of specific populations through program planning, implementation and evaluation. Incorporates supervised field experiences in low-income, school and other public facilities as well as private health and education oriented organizations.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Using criteria for the identification of community target groups demonstrating a high priority of need for dental health education and intervention (Oral Health in America:  A Report of the Surgeon General) students will    identify appropriate community target groups for focused dental health education field projects.
 II.     For identified target groups, make effective use of limited time and resources to assess group needs and identify most productive use of dental hygienist¿s time and available resources.
 III.    Identify the value of in-service activities to persons in caretaker roles and describe the critical content and educational methodology for in-service projects.
 IV.     Having selected an appropriate target population according to course criteria, collect data, plan and present dental health educational program and evaluate effect by measuring how well project objectives were met.
 V.      During the course, prepare a portfolio of evidence for documentation of activities used in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the field activity.
