  Course Description:Involves the student in research, presentation, and discussion regarding legal and ethical considerations of patient care, and the roles, relationships, and requirements of the dental hygiene professional. Covers the organization and management of dental hygiene practice. Addresses state dental practice acts, licensure and credentialing, and various aspects of employment.~

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Explain the purpose and role of educational standards, credentialing, and continuing education in the regulation of health care providers.
 II.     Understand the legal and ethical ramifications involved in working as a health care provider, and specifically as a dental hygienist.
 III.    Discuss various career alternatives available to the dental hygienist, and discuss priorities important to the student in job selection.
 IV.     Understand the various aspects of the many roles and relationships in which the dental hygienist participates as a licensed health care provider, particularly regarding interrelationships with peers, patients and co-workers.
 V.      Prepare for employment by developing a resume, cover letter, and interview skills.
 VI.     Understand and anticipate changes in going from a school setting to a ¿real world¿ work setting.
 VII.    Prepare for clinical board exams.
