STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. List benefits achieved when utilizing sharp cutting edge instruments
II. Describe the sharpening procedure for the sickle scaler, Universal curet, and area specific curet (Gracey curets).
III. Identify the essential grasp of both the instrument and the sharpening stone.
IV. Characterize the Arkansas stone, the India stone and the ceramic stone.
V. Identify the working edge of an area specific curet (Gracey)
VI. Define Self angulated curette, working cutting edge and mini-working end.
VII. Demonstrate appropriate care of the air driven hand piece.
VIII. Understand the handling of removable dental prostheses regarding cross contamination.
IX. Identify, fixed partial denture, removable partial denture, complete denture, fixed space maintainer and removable space maintainer.
X Recognize need to use cleaning methods.
XI. Give appropriate instructions for the care of the patient¿s underlying mucosa.
