STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Develop a working knowledge of the various lasers utilized in dentistry with emphasis placed on the diode laser.
2. Identify appropriate patients and conditions when a diode laser would be utilized in dental hygiene treatment.
3. Identify specified outcomes when the diode laser is utilized and effectively articulate these to faculty and patients.
4. Identify the limitations of the diode laser.
5. Demonstrate correct usage of the diode laser in the laboratory setting.
6. Demonstrate correct usage of the diode laser in the clinical setting.
7. Develop a treatment plan, including maintenance visits, for a patient whose condition warrants the use of a diode laser.
8. Describe ethical implications of lasers.
