STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Expand on instrumentation skills including instrument sharpening.
II. Know learning principles/techniques for motivating people to learn.
III. Provide an overview of the role and importance of pit and fissure sealants in preventive dentistry.
IV. Learn basic dental hygiene theory and technique for polishing teeth and applying topical fluoride.
V. Know types of disclosing solutions and their use.
VI. Know brushing and dental aids techniques and appropriate applications.
VII. Understand the role bacteria play in periodontal disease and be able to explain it to a patient in layman¿s terms.
VIII. Understand the caries process and be able to explain it to a patient in layman¿s terms.
IX. Understand the importance of the PSR and the role it plays.
X Know the benefits of water fluoridation and be able to explain the benefits to a patient in layman¿s terms using scientific evidence to support your explanation.
XI. Know the benefits and characteristics of various topical fluorides.
XII. Understand Treatment Planning and complete a Patient Assessment for a periodontally involved Case Study.
XIII. Understand Emergency protocol.
