STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Recognize the important names, dates and facts relating to the history of dental x-ray.
II. Understand the principles of x-ray production.
III. Identify the components of the dental x-ray machine.
IV. Comprehend the methods of measuring electromagnetic radiation.
V. Identify the terms used in radiology.
VI. Demonstrate skill in taking intra-oral films, using various techniques
VII. Identify the components of x-ray films and developing solutions and their functions.
VIII. Demonstrate proficiency in developing and mounting radiographs.
IX. Recognize normal and abnormal anatomical landmarks of the maxilla and the mandible.
X Interpret normal variations and basic pathologic conditions.
XI. Critique radiographs and explain how to correct any errors in technique.
XII. Identify the potential hazards of radiation and methods of minimizing these hazards.
XIII. Demonstrate familiarization with the panoramic x-ray machine, exposure technique and interpretation of anatomic structures.
