Course Description: | Introduces incoming dental hygiene students to the terminology they will need to build upon as they progress through the program. This includes dental terminology with specific relevance to dental hygiene, HIPAA and its legal basis, procedures and protocols relevant to a dental hygiene school setting including rudimentary ethical considerations. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Develop a working knowledge of basic dental terminology with particular relevance to dental hygiene.
2. Recognize the basic dental hygiene instrument set-up.
3. Demonstrate awareness of the various dental specialties, proper spelling and pronounciation.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of HIPAA and how it applies to a dental hygiene clinical setting.
5. Discuss proper protocols and procedures for the dental hygiene clinic
