Course Description: | Introduces the beginning dancer to popular dances through a social dance sampler in Salsa, Swing, and Country Western Dance technique, footwork, body posturing, rhythms, and dance floor etiquette. Examines a variety of dances such as Salsa`s Mambo, Cha-Cha, and Rumba; Swing`s Lindy Hop (jitterbug); and Country Western`s Two Step, Cowboy Waltz, Cotton-Eyed Joe and various Country Western line dances. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
A. Identify various social dance forms in technique, style and rhythms.
B. Apply social dance floor etiquette.
C. Utilize proper social dance positions and proper alignment.
D. Practice and demonstrate hip motion, footwork and turns.
E. Demonstrate the Mambo, Rumba¿s basic box step and the Cha-Cha basic step.
F. Explain and show the competitive quality and symbiotic relationship between the dancer and propulsive quality of swing music.
G. Demonstrate the Single Lindy, Double, and Triple Lindy.
H. Distinguish the evolution of country western dance as a unique blend of American Country-dance and Western square dance.
I. Perform the basic Two-step, Cowboy Waltz and the basic Western Swing.
J. Execute line dances.
