STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Discuss the creative process.
2. Define art as it applies to performance.
3. Describe the basic elements of dance.
4. Describe the styles of dance popular in Greece and Rome, medieval Europe, the Renaissance, 17th through 19th century France and Russia.
5. Discuss the key figures in Western European dance from 19th century to the present.
6. Explain the relationship of dance styles to the cultural period when they were popular.
7. Demonstrate a knowledge of dance terminology.
8. Discuss the importance of bodily alignment.
9. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between specific movements and anatomical parts.
10. Demonstrate proper balance and coordination.
11. Demonstrate the ability to dance to several different rhythms.
12. Discuss the relationship between music and dance.
