STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Define and demonstrate a complete understanding of important legal terminology. (I, II)
II. Demonstrate understanding of the Code of Professional Responsibility and its application to paralegals and other law office personnel. (II)
III. Perform processing of legal documents for filing and retrieval. (III)
IV. Demonstrate understanding of basic law office management procedures, including intake procedures, calendaring, correspondence, telephone techniques, and mail-handling procedures. (III)
V. Demonstrate knowledge of various systems of accounting used in law offices. (III)
VI. Describe various formats of legal documents and their preparation and use. (III)
VII. Demonstrate basic understanding of principles of legal research. (III)
VIII. Understand and describe the civil litigation process, including pre-trial, discovery, trial and post-trial procedures. (IV, VII)
IX. Prepare basic legal documents used in civil litigation. (V)
