STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Exhibit English language usage competencies by: (I ¿ IX)
A. Demonstrating correct English usage, applying rules of proper grammar, punctuation, and style and using correct spelling and logical sentence structure.
B. Demonstrating the ability to use style references and other resources.
II. Demonstrate the ability to operate word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment: (I - IX)
A. create, edit, store, retrieve, and print documents
B. manage files on the word processor
C. operate the transcribers
D. transcribe mailable quality copy
E. print completed documents on appropriate printers
III. Exhibit legal knowledge competencies: (I ¿ IX)
A. define legal terms
B. transcribe both court and noncourt legal documents
C. follow basic formatting rules for business letters, interoffice memos, and legal documents.
IV. Demonstrate planning skills (I- IX)
A. maintain a check-off list of documents completed
B. meet completion deadlines
C. maintain a current folder of assignments
V. Coordinate written instruction with dictated instructions: (I ¿ IX)
A. transcribe the documents without transcribing the instructions
B. transcribe the documents using correct format

A. demonstrate an understanding and application of ethics in the legal transcription profession
