REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Describe the roles, responsibilities, and legal considerations of the IV/IO endorsement for the EMT.
2. Identify features of cellular and vascular anatomy and physiology.
3. Describe principles of shock.
4. Demonstrate appropriate body substance isolation.
5. Demonstrate vascular access site selection and preparation.
6. Assemble intravenous therapy and phlebotomy equipment.
7. Demonstrate intravenous therapy, venipuncture, and phlebotomy technique.
8. Compute drip rate and dosage calculations.
9. Explain the need for patient assessment in the maintenance of IV therapy.
10. Demonstrate intraosseus site selection and preparation.
11. Assemble intraosseus equipment.
12. Demonstrate intraosseus technique.
13. Explain vascular therapy in the management of adult care.
14. Explain vascular therapy in the management of pediatric care.
15. Demonstrate intramuscular (IM) site selection and preparation.
16. Assemble IM injection equipment.
17. Demonstrate IM technique.
18. Discuss the accurate documentation for IV administration, IO placement, and vascular access.
19. Demonstrate blood glucose testing.
20. Evaluate pharmacology considerations.
21. Demonstrate methods of parenteral medication administration.
REQUIRED TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Topics as outlined in the vascular access and medication administration curriculum as published by the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment EMS Division.
