STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Describe the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC).
II. Describe key growth and development characteristics for each of the following groups : Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school aged children, adolescents, and children with special health care needs.
III. Describe the thee elements of the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT).
IV. Describe the special anatomic considerations in the examinations of the child vs. the adult patient.
V. Apply appropriate assessment and treatment techniques to pediatric patients with respiratory emergencies.
VI. Apply appropriate assessment and treatment techniques to pediatric patients with cardiac emergencies (including shock).
VII. Apply appropriate assessment and treatment techniques to pediatric patients with medical emergencies (including seizures and altered levels of consciousness).
VIII. Apply appropriate assessment and treatment techniques to pediatric patients with toxic ingestion.
IX. Discuss assessment and treatment of pediatric burn patients.
X Apply appropriate assessment and treatment techniques to pediatric patients with a variety of trauma situations ¿ including child maltreatment.
